Before and after every great idea someone got to say that’s still not good enough, this discontentment is what drives creativity not this magical moment of gleeful inspiration or essentially dealing with modified perfectionism i.e., the refusal to accept almost anything short of near perfection, and that’s not an easy way to live, it makes it painful to look at our own work and more likely to be emotionally affected when it does go wrong. We can get stuck, rejecting all our ideas before giving them a real chance. We can easily obsess over almost perfecting small detail when we should be looking at the overall artwork.
The alternative is to say that’s still good enough and take the path full of risk and fear, doubt and exhaustion, instability and stress and it brings out plenty of low points but with it the trill of the highs.
Contentment is the enemy of progress. We want to see the flaws rather than the quickly going, but most importantly we need to remember that all of this discontentment this self-doubt, doesn’t mean we should quit. It means that we are actually onto something. Because the people who feel the sting of their own inadequacies and keep working at it are the ones who finally find the magic.
Grey Space Gallery features 15 artists to re-feature their Backroom work, the work that is unseen in their studio. Puying, Jet Rai, Anton Aguas, Lee Salvador, Bryan Casio, Miguel Emmanuel Borbor, Kalem, Nino Cris Odosis, Melchor Sabriza, Jhon Menard Pamonag, Ovidio Espiritu III, Ovidio Espiritu Jr., Ian Inoy, Bridget Co and Jerome Montañez find their magical creative moments in their works and demand to give their creation a chance to see and re-feature in this online exhibition.
