In the Timaeus, Plato discussed the Khora, an enigmatic entity that acts as an abstract space where a birthing process or a place for being occurs. This womb-like space is a creative matrix and receptacle where the genesis of a thing (real or the ideal) initiates. It's a metaphysical receptacle and container for things that neither can be contained nor grasped. Because of its abstract nature, Khora has been explored in various disciplines: semantics, literature, architecture. The Otherness will attempt to project the immateriality of Khora to an observable and conscious state by giving it physical forms but essentially formless, tangibility and yet liminal, an "answer" but actually a question in its real sense.
The artworks present in this exhibition explores the in-between of architecture and art through the Platonic device of Khora. Formal interpretations of the prompt varies from geometric abstraction to speculative design work — from flat media to three dimensional objects. The artists have attempted to create varied architectures of meaning where it is free from preconceptions of scale and function and where its third-space is evoked through the interaction between the audience and the idea made manifest.
