This artwork shows what helped Raine cope with the pandemic. They are video games, crocheting, and a cat.

During the first few weeks of ECQ, Raine felt hopeless, depressed and uninspired to make artworks so she picked up her PS4 controller and played the video gamesFinal Fantasy 7 Remake, Resident Evil 2 and 3 Remake, and Devil May Cry 5. The activity was very effective in keeping her energy positive.

In the later months of 2020, Raine started to watch a couple of crochet video tutorials and quickly learned the craft. She mainly enjoys making amigurumis and this new hobby keeps her mind from overthinking.

The sweet cuddles with her late cat Porthos used to always cheer her up even during the most trying times. Raine found his presence calming and his aura full of love.

Raine Sarmiento is a painter and illustrator. She began to draw at the age of five, and
started winning scholastic art competitions at seven. 

Raine worked for advertising agencies immediately after completing her BFA. From
2013, she started to participate in gallery exhibitions. 

Her current works are inspired by the ancient history, with modern human figure as
the subject matter. She often chooses to paint poses that show sadness. This reflects
her shy personality and often-troubled mental health.
