Cindy Aquino (b. 1986) studied Mass Communication at New Era University, Quezon City. She has created internationally awarded bodies of work on gender diversity and how social issues affect the human condition. In 2013, she won the Grand Prize of the Pride Photo Award in Amsterdam, Netherlands, and since then she has exhibited work in both local and international institutions such as the Cultural Center of the Philippines and Bangkok Art and Culture Centre in Thailand. She is currently a contributing photographer for progressive media platforms in the Philippines, with in-depth reportage and multimedia content online. Cindy is an alumna of photojournalism and documentary workshops at the Photojournalists' Center of the Philippines, and works primarily with black and white photography. As she was diagnosed with Unipolar Depression Disorder, this is her way of distressing the emotions that she had encountered. When she feels shut down and zoning out in a situation, she gets attached to the exploration of emotions. Feeling the numbness and weakness in a day. She held herself and captured the beauty of nature and transferred it to how she felt. For this exhibition, she intended to break the usual medium that she was using. She wanted to freely express herself through colors.
