2020 has catapulted all of us into a constant state of transition. Every day of that year, we forced ourselves to go against our conventions for the sake of survival. Yet, we’ve had to keep ourselves guarded, hidden behind emotional and literal masks and shields. The world that we’ve once roamed freely has become smaller, four-walled, and almost barren. It is as if our memory of humanity was wiped out - like in a "tabula rasa" or "blank slate."

Come 2021, the unspoken yet understood task to fill the slate with a new identity, a new name, is up to us. Whatever we decide as our starting point will most likely guide and pivot the way we live our present and future. Artists, given their creativity and sensibility to the times, often take on the challenge of creating an imagined future for them and us.

As homage, The Grey Space presents ARTISTNAME, featuring 9 individuals whose intimate experiences of restructuring oneself demonstrate the human tour de force in starting from scratch.
