Collection: The Cubicle
The Cubicle is an alternative art space that ran from 2001 to 2011. It started in a converted section of a beauty salon run by the mother of Ronald Caringal. It was initially intended to become his work studio but then eventually started showcasing works by up-and-coming artists of the time. By 2003, it had moved to a bigger space and was able to host larger and more diverse exhibitions. The Cubicle was featured in multiple magazines, international art catalogs, and books. With the support of artists, educators, and curators, The Cubicle was able to develop a diverse selection of exhibits that were forward-thinking and, at the time, could be considered ahead of the curve due to the visionary direction of the participating artists. Some of them were showcases of video art, street art, illustration, low-brow art, pop art, and others that were considered outsider or non-commercial works at the time. The Cubicle was also a firm proponent of artist-made products and offered a wide selection from bags, shirts, prints, and event musical albums. The space became a think hub and a haven for artists, designers, writers, filmmakers, and all sorts of creative minds. The Cubicle also collaborated with overseas galleries and curators to bring the works of artists abroad. The last show of The Cubicle was held at its third location, which was an even bigger space. The show was ironically entitled “Year Zero.”.
