We're all pawns
in life's game of chess
easy to sacrifice
very hard to miss
We think we're the Queen
fiercely protected
but our figures are flawed
and never perfected
We aim to be Kings
swords in our hands
but we can't see the difference
between enemies and friends
The truth is this
we're the first to fall
cause we're the pawns in this game
and we stand no chance at all.
What better way to embody the reality of politics, other than chess? The game on black and white squares has always been used to personify the grim and complex reality of politics: the push and pull, the give and take, the deception, and ultimately, the sacrifice. In The Grey Space's last exhibit for the year, entitled, "The Knight of the Thousand Islands," 8 local artists explore the this grim reality on a canvas. Each artist comes with their unique view of politics: the vanity and deception of the game that inevitably produces winners and losers.
