Bets Beltran-Laguipo | Magdridrive Ako Hanggang Baguio (Inspired by the Song Overdrive by the Eraserheads)
Acrylic on Canvas24" x 36"
2022
Who does not love Baguio’s majestic mountains and cold climate? Anyone who has been there wants to go back, and back, and back. Just like the Eraserheads, one of the most popular and iconic bands of the 90s. Their song “Overdrive” featured Baguio City as a promising tourist destination. Apart from featuring the city, at the end of the song, the band also enumerated some of the delectable “pasalubongs” of Baguio and Benguet – the peanut brittle, Pinikpikan, and tapuy, among others. Truly, Baguio City will always be not just a tourist spot on the mountains, but a place we can call home.
Bets (b.1987) is a mother-of-three and a loving wife who hails from Baguio City, Philippines. She was a former nurse, clinical instructor, and medical writer, but decided to pursue her love for the arts. Growing up, she loved joining poster making contests but never had the chance to pursue arts as a profession. Amidst the pandemic, she rekindled with arts to cope with stress during the lockdown. However, when she realized it was her calling and passion, she decided to become a full-time artist. Along the way, Bets has joined several competitions and arts exhibits locally and nationally. She creates her masterpieces based on her love for colors, lines, shapes, and patterns. Her common subjects revolved around womanhood, motherhood, and nature. She also creates non-representational pieces using her art style. Now, she plans to further improve her skills and along the way, reach a wider audience for her work.
