“Sitaw, bataw, patani” is a playful nod to the classic Filipino children’s song “Bahay Kubo,” celebrating the bounty of backyard gardens. This piece is part of a lighthearted series exploring the shapes and rhythms of familiar food plants—an experiment in acrylic that marks one of the artist’s first finished works in the medium. Hidden within the composition is a special coded wish: anyone who breaks the code earns a blessing, as if they’ve unlocked a hopeful secret from the painting.
